How to add drainage to a cement porch that pools water?

Porch is one step up from ground and there is one step up to the doorway. It takes several days for the water to disappear after a rain. Postal delivery throws mail on a chair on the porch; other delivery people complain about the water.

One method to eliminate 'pooling' of water on a porch is to apply a self-leveling compound, to help fill in the low spots. If not done properly, this could result in just moving the pool of water from one spot to another. You can purchase this type of product to do it yourself, or there are businesses that specialize in creating a decorative finish over existing concrete. You'd be surprised at the variety of looks you can achieve, and you may want to check into this with a local contractor.

A more unorthodox method might be to take a concrete saw, and actually cut a drain channel from the 'pool' location, to the edge of the porch. With some time and patient application of the saw, you could provide a decorative pattern to the cuts - this would take quite a bit of time.

Probably the simplest and cheapest approach though, would be to invest in a squeegee, and push the water off, after the rain has stopped. If you can't find a squeegee, a push broom can be put to good use.
